Lions 'close to extinction'

Summarizing the article, it is basically about animals related to Africa and how they are being exploited to becoming endangered species. Many scientists in universities and researched and said that the only solution to overcome extinction of wildlife species is for humans and wildlife to live together. The article also mentions many reasons as to why these endangered species are exploited. One of the main reasons is that people in Africa are poor and by killing these animals they get huge amounts of money.

Who?
The 'who' in the article would be the endangered animals like: the lion, the wild dog and even cheetahs. Many of these animals numbers have dropped exponentially in the last tow decades and scientists have predicted that these endangered species would be no more in less than 12 years.

What?
The 'what' in this article would be that the endangered species are being hunted and slaughtered to their extinction. Many scientists have done research and their study shows that in a decade or so these endangered animals would be no more. Many journalists have also said that many people know the fact that these wonderful animals are being exploited in large numbers but seem to oblivious to the fact.

When?
The 'when' according to this article would be, in 12 years. Many animals particularly in Africa are being exploited and in less than 12 years they would become extinct. Scientists claim that this time period would be when Kenya's population would double.

Why?
Because of the people in Africa being poor. Scientists say that Kenyans can make huge money, around 500,000 US dollars when they kill and sell these endangered species. Of course they are poor and thats the reason they kill these animals.

Where?
This article directly tells the reader that this problem is based in Kenya, however indirectly the author is addressing the problem and raising awareness of extinction to the whole world and addressing the problem of extinction on a global level. Although, this article mostly talks about Kenya and all the number figures including its future population is based on Kenya.

How?
The author states that many of these animals are shot or poisoned. The author tells the reader that there were 200,000 lions in the last two decades and now there are approximately 23,000 left. This shows that in another 10 years this wild life species would be extinct. The author also proposes a solution saying that the only way to reduce extinction would be for humans and wild-life to 'live' together.

Inverted Pyramid

Most Important
There are 23,000 lions left compared to 200,000 that where there 20 years ago. Lions could get extinct within the next 12 years. Many other wild-life species, the wild dog's population has fallen to between 3000 to 5000. There are also only 15000 cheetahs.
Important Details
All these animals including more endangered species are brutally killed using guns and even poison. In a city in Kenya people make around half a million dollars on killing these endangered species. Almost everyone in Kenya has got guns including rifles to kill lions, cheetahs, elephants etc.
Least Important
Scientists say that the only way to decrease the threat is for humans and wild-life to live happily together. They even say that the villagers kill these animals to protect their livestock and farms. Many professors' research tells us that these poor countries can make huge amounts of money through tourism instead of killing these endangered species and selling them.

Lives of People
This article talks about people in Kenya who are poor how they earn their money through killing these endangered species. This article also talks about people who are trying to earn money through farming and through raising cattle, but instead lions and other predators attack their cattle. This is when they are shot at and killed. There are two sides to this article. there is one where the people are protecting their cattle and shooting at lions and other predators to protect their cattle. The other side is that the people are killing these endangered species to sell them and earn huge amounts of money.

Angle
The angle in this article is that extinction is bad and that many endangered species numbers have fallen exponentially within the last 20 years.

Quotations
There are 6 quotations in the article.

Effectiveness
This article as a text-type is very effective at changing my views about extinction. Firstly I thought that many Africans kill endangered species because they are in need of money. This article contains many quotations by various scientists and professionals, these quotations taught me that the people do not kill these animals because they are poor but because they want to protect their cattle and livestock. This gave me another perspective to think about the topic about extinction.
I think I would advise the author to make their article longer and to provide more evidence by stating the view points of the citizens themselves. I would also advise the author to add some more facts about other animals that are endangered and on the verge of extinction and not only the few they talked about.

Text-Types
I think that electronic ads and posters on the internet would help initiate this issue more effectively because almost everyone uses the internet everyday and so ads and posters online can help because then people will read them.
